Jake is the son of Jim and Catherine Bernhardt and the older brother of Jesse and Jared’s older brother. Theresa Schmeiser’s nephew and an honor roll student named a Disney Dreamer and Doer majoring in physical education.

The Milton and Katharine van den Berg Lacrosse Scholarship was awarded to Bernhardt. Bernhardt grew up in Longwood, Florida, and went to Lake Brantley High School. Jake has always been a diligent worker who aspired to be a professional lacrosse player since he was a child. He eagerly engaged in every game and gave his all to complete his task.

Bernhardt enters his fifth season as an assistant coach with the University of Vermont men’s lacrosse program in 2021. In his 95-game career with the Ohio Machine, New York Lizards, and Whipsnakes LC, Jake Bernhardt scored 66 goals and added 44 assists. He first took the field in the 2013 season and last played in the 2021 season.

Prior to the 2014 season, Jake Bernhardt returned to Maryland as the team’s director of lacrosse operations. From an administrative standpoint, he will be involved in every aspect of the Terrapin program, including team travel and meals, camp operations, practice schedules, and assisting with the program’s other support units, such as academics, community engagement, equipment, marketing, media relations, and sports medicine.

Bernhardt was a successful two-way midfielder for the Terps from 2009 to 2013, helping them win the ACC tournament and reach the NCAA championship game in 2011. Bernhardt continued his lacrosse career as a member of the MLL’s Ohio Machine after graduating in 2013.
